At its heart, good writing is storytelling. Whether it be an article in a magazine, a corporate website, or a nonprofit organization’s newsletter, effective communication is about connecting with people in a way that resonates with their needs, concerns, and interests. That’s where I can help.

What I do: I am a freelance writer, editor, and travel photographer based in Seattle, Washington. I specialize in travel, environmental issues, international development, philanthropy, and cultural issues.

Journalism: I have written for a wide range of print and online media, including The Christian Science Monitor, Earth Island Journal, Trip (a Seattle Times magazine), Celsias.com, Examiner.com, Suite 101, and many others. I am the news editor for Ethical Traveler (ethicaltraveler.org) and have also written online content for Travel Channel Media and Expedia.com. I write two travel-related blogs, Crossing Time Zones and Real Scandinavia.

Copywriting: As a copywriter and editor, I help businesses and organizations tell their stories and communicate with their target audiences in ways that make people want to support them. My clients include travel, hospitality, and outdoor recreation companies; cultural organizations; nonprofit organizations working on global issues; and businesses that are striving to be sustainable and socially responsible. I am also experienced at working with non-native English speakers who want to reach a broader audience.

Photography: Like writing, good photography is about storytelling. A photograph captures a particular moment in time that may represent a larger story. As a travel photographer, I have captured such moments around the world for many years.

Why me? I bring a mix of many years’ experience in editorial work and a strong background in my fields of specialization. Over the course of my writing and editing career, I have worked with magazines, newspapers, web content providers, nonprofit organizations, small businesses, and major corporations. I have a professional background in the travel industry and nonprofit work, as well as an academic background in environmental studies, geography, international development, and Latin American studies. In addition, my multilingual background enables me to work easily with clients whose native language is not English.
