Me (front, second from left) with a National Geographic Expeditions group in New Zealand
Alongside my editorial work, I have been leading trips as a freelance tour manager and guide for various tour operators and specialty travel programs for over a decade. I have worked with groups from such organizations as National Geographic Expeditions, Smithsonian Journeys, American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) Expeditions, California Academy of Sciences Travel, National Trust Tours, Stanford Travel/Study, Harvard Alumni Association Travels, University of Virginia Cavalier Travels, and Yale Educational Travel, as well as numerous mainstream tour operators.
Destinations where I have led tours include Cuba, Scandinavia, Egypt, Mongolia, the Galapagos Islands, Patagonia, Easter Island, New Zealand, Japan, China, South Korea, Central Europe (Prague and the Danube River route through Germany, Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary), Italy, the western Mediterranean, Alaska, and Canada, as well as various locations across the United States.
I trained at the International Tour Management Institute and also have extensive independent travel experience, as well as conversational or advanced fluency in several languages. I have strong personal and academic ties to Scandinavia and Latin America, along with expertise in ecotourism, adventure travel, history and natural history, travel writing, and photography.
